Description

  • Lead a cross-functional engineering team of 4–5 engineers and report to the Head of Engineering.
  • Create and maintain concrete growth plans for every individual contributor.
  • Own predictable delivery by managing scope, surfacing risks early, and maintaining shipping cadence.
  • Address team conflict and underperformance directly while retaining and developing top performers.
  • Partner with Product, Design, quality engineering, architecture, security, and other engineering teams from roadmap through release.
  • Provide technical direction on system design and architectural risks without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
  • Introduce and manage AI tools and workflows for code review, documentation, planning, debugging, and development.
  • Track team performance, velocity, retention risks, and professional growth to guide decisions.
  • Build trust, accountability, and culture across distributed teams and time zones.

Requirements

  • Prior experience leading fully remote engineering teams as the default operating model.
  • Demonstrated experience creating career growth plans and developing engineers into senior engineers or technical leads.
  • Experience managing underperformance through a clear, structured, and documented process.
  • Strong conflict-management skills with examples of resolving issues directly and promptly.
  • Data-driven approach to people management and delivery, including use of metrics such as velocity, retention, and growth.
  • Technical credibility through experience with code reviews, architecture, debugging, or comparable hands-on engineering work.
  • Proven ability to delegate, coach decision-making, and avoid becoming a bottleneck.
  • Deep, practical experience using AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, AI-assisted code review, or prompt-based development workflows.
  • Commitment to people leadership as a primary discipline rather than a transition back to individual-contributor work.

Benefits

  • Annual contractor compensation of $120,000–$140,000 USD, depending on experience.
