Description

  • Design, build, and scale core platform infrastructure for high-volume web traffic at the CDN and edge computing layer.
  • Take technical leadership in architecture design, technical planning, and long-term design documentation.
  • Plan and execute gradual rollouts by defining target audiences, KPIs, and success metrics before shipping major changes.
  • Debug complex front-end behavior caused by backend platform changes across browsers, devices, and geographies.
  • Collaborate with data engineering to ensure testability at scale and build measurement and observability frameworks.
  • Solve high-complexity technical problems with significant scope and ambiguity.
  • Mentor engineers and serve as a technical escalation point for difficult platform issues.
  • Stay current with emerging web performance technologies, edge computing patterns, and browser optimization techniques.
  • Integrate AI coding tools into the engineering workflow to improve delivery speed and code quality.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of software engineering experience building and scaling high-traffic, multi-tenant web platforms.
  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed, high-availability systems at meaningful scale.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure in a cloud-agnostic environment.
  • Experience with CDN infrastructure and web performance optimization tools such as Cloudflare, Lighthouse, and WebPageTest.
  • Knowledge of performance techniques such as web workers, lazy loading, and code splitting.
  • Infrastructure as Code experience with Pulumi or an equivalent tool.
  • Strong SQL and data querying skills, including experience working with data warehouses and data-driven engineering decisions.
  • Experience with message queues such as SQS or Kinesis and with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redshift, or an equivalent data storage system.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and detail orientation for massive-traffic-scale systems.
  • Active use of AI tools in the engineering workflow, such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Codex.
  • Strong English communication skills for technical discussions and async collaboration with a distributed team.
  • Available to work full Eastern Standard Time hours.
  • Legally authorized to work as an independent contractor in the country where you are located.
  • Cloudflare Workers or edge computing experience, highly preferred.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify or Salesforce Commerce Cloud, preferred.
  • Snowflake or data warehouse query optimization experience, preferred.
  • Background in media or high-traffic publishing platforms, preferred.
  • Experience running or leading a multi-brand or multi-tenant web platform, preferred.
  • Startup experience owning significant platform surface area with a small team, preferred.
  • Agile/Scrum experience in a distributed team environment, preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary of $6,000 to $8,000 USD per month.
  • 15 days of PTO.
  • Local or US holidays.
