Description

  • Apply open-source investigation techniques, including geolocation, chronolocation, and satellite imagery analysis, to collect, verify, and analyze data.
  • Record and maintain sourced information in project databases using predefined fields and scope requirements.
  • Contribute to reports, briefings, and other project outputs on a timely basis.
  • Prepare bespoke training materials and use pre- and post-training assessments to tailor sessions.
  • Oversee or conduct joint open-source research projects with external civil society organization partners.
  • Provide mentorship to civil society organizations on open-source investigative techniques, data visualisation, digital security, and mitigation of vicarious trauma.
  • Deliver in-person and remote OSINT training for participants ranging from beginner to intermediate/advanced levels.
  • Work collaboratively with other trainers and investigators on project activities.
  • Support internal reviews of project effectiveness and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in OSINT-driven investigations, including geolocation, chronolocation, and social media monitoring.
  • Prior experience conducting OSINT research on Sudan and/or East Africa.
  • Fluency in Arabic at C1 / Professional level and proficiency in English.
  • Proficiency in satellite imagery analysis, including experience with tools such as Planet.
  • Extensive experience delivering OSINT training and mentorship both in-person and remotely.
  • Demonstrated ability to support civil society organizations in digital investigations, which is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical terminology for lay audiences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to East Africa for capacity-building and training.
  • Contractor availability for a full-time workload of 19 days per month from July 2026 to March 2027, subject to funding.
