Description

  • Answer and manage high-volume inbound patient calls in English and Spanish.
  • Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and cancel appointments using athenahealth.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and collect patient demographics and intake information.
  • Route calls to providers, nurses, and other departments as needed.
  • Triage patient calls and respond to clinical questions within Medical Assistant scope of practice under provider supervision.
  • Process prescription refill requests through athenahealth for provider review and approval.
  • Coordinate referrals with specialists, imaging centers, and ancillary facilities.
  • Follow up with patients regarding lab results, imaging studies, and provider care instructions.
  • Document patient interactions, telephone encounters, and clinical communications accurately in athenahealth.
  • Send and respond to secure patient portal messages and maintain HIPAA-compliant documentation.

Requirements

  • athenahealth (athenaOne) EMR experience is required with no exceptions.
  • Fluent English and Spanish are required.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience supporting U.S.-based healthcare providers.
  • Experience performing both front-office and back-office Medical Assistant duties.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical workflows, prescription refill processes, and referral coordination.
  • Experience verifying insurance eligibility and patient benefits.
  • Ability to answer clinical questions appropriately within Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service, phone etiquette, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Benefits

  • Full-time contractor role, 40 hours per week.
  • Negotiable pay rate based on skillset and experience.
  • Monday through Friday schedule.
  • 8 AM to 5 PM EST schedule.
  • Remote work from home.
