Description

  • Lead technical direction for a small engineering team through code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
  • Design and implement scalable backend API endpoints and LLM pipelines.
  • Architect high-throughput data pipelines that move clean, processed data between databases and user interfaces.
  • Build secure infrastructure for authentication, session persistence, memory caching, and AWS-based high availability.
  • Drive migration from legacy systems to a new Python stack and make maintenance-versus-new-development decisions.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Data Scientists to turn machine learning prototypes into production applications.
  • Provide technical stewardship across the full stack for AI-powered tools and products.
  • Guide long-term technical strategy for Adzuna’s AI and Python platform.
  • Support collaboration across teams while unifying development silos.

Requirements

  • Extensive commercial software development experience with a focus on Python.
  • Proven experience in technical leadership or lead developer roles.
  • Must be located within 2 hours of London time and able to work standard UK business hours.
  • Must have the legal right to work remotely as an independent contractor in the country of residence.
  • No visa sponsorship available now or in the future.
  • Professional proficiency in written and verbal English.
  • Technical degree (2:1 or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a highly relevant field.
  • Strong understanding of Python fundamentals and object-oriented programming.
  • Experience writing clean, maintainable Python code for live, user-facing environments.
  • Strong expertise in MySQL and/or PostgreSQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and Git version control.
  • Results-driven mindset with the ability to advise senior leadership on the Python ecosystem and AI/ML frameworks.
  • Experience coding LLMs into production applications and using agentic AI coding in daily workflow.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with HTML, CSS (Tailwind), and React.
  • Nice to have: understanding of web scraping, DOM parsing, bot-detection bypass, and browser automation/testing tools such as Playwright or Selenium.
  • Nice to have: an active GitHub profile showcasing work or personal projects.
