Description

  • Translate program goals and course maps into detailed course designs.
  • Lead faculty working sessions to define learning outcomes, sequence content, and create activities and assessments.
  • Coach faculty on online teaching and provide feedback on course drafts.
  • Write and edit student-facing course content, instructions, rubrics, and discussion prompts.
  • Design interactive, scenario-based, and AI-enabled learning activities where appropriate.
  • Storyboard video and multimedia and collaborate with media producers.
  • Build courses in an LMS or provide complete specifications to course builders.
  • Ensure courses meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility and Quality Matters standards.
  • Evaluate courses using the EPIIIC scorecard and revise them based on reviews and student feedback.
  • Manage course-build timelines and communicate risks to internal and university stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of instructional or learning design experience, primarily in higher-education online programs.
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design of online courses, ideally for graduate or professional programs.
  • Experience partnering with faculty, including senior faculty, to guide course-design decisions.
  • Fluency in backward design, outcomes alignment, and assessment design.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Matters, OSCQR, or similar quality frameworks.
  • Hands-on accessibility expertise, including alt text, captions, heading structure, color contrast, and accessible documents.
  • Strong LMS experience; Canvas experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple courses and deadlines independently.
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, learning sciences, educational technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Quality Matters Peer Reviewer or Applying the QM Rubric certification (preferred).
  • Experience using generative AI for course design or student learning activities (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Articulate Rise, H5P, Camtasia, or Figma (preferred).
  • Must be legally authorized to live and work in the United States and reside in the U.S. throughout the engagement.
