Description

  • Assess the application’s New Relic dashboards, alerts, SLIs/SLOs, synthetic checks, logs, and traces.
  • Define the migration strategy and map New Relic components to Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, or equivalent tools.
  • Rebuild dashboards and alert rules in Grafana and validate monitoring coverage and alert quality.
  • Instrument and configure AWS workloads and application components to transmit metrics, logs, and traces using OpenTelemetry where applicable.
  • Establish and troubleshoot secure AWS connectivity, including VPC routing, security groups, VPC endpoints or PrivateLink, and DNS.
  • Run both monitoring platforms in parallel, validate data accuracy, and execute a low-risk production cutover.
  • Integrate and tune alerting with incident-management and notification channels.
  • Use and review AI-assisted tooling such as Codex for query translation, dashboard generation, infrastructure-as-code, and documentation.
  • Document the monitoring environment, create runbooks, transfer knowledge, and provide progress updates and risk flags.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of DevOps, SRE, or observability engineering experience, preferably in high-traffic cloud environments.
  • Strong hands-on Grafana experience, including dashboards, alerting, and data-source configuration.
  • Practical New Relic experience with APM, dashboards, NRQL, and alert policies.
  • Experience with Prometheus/PromQL, Loki, Tempo or ELK, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Hands-on AWS experience with EC2, EKS/ECS, IAM, CloudWatch, S3, and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Strong AWS networking knowledge covering VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, load balancers, VPC endpoints/PrivateLink, and Route 53.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex in daily engineering work.
  • Ability to work independently, start on short notice, and deliver within a tight timeline.
  • Availability Monday–Friday during Canadian time-zone hours and strong written and verbal English skills.
  • Preferred: Grafana Cloud or Mimir, monitoring migrations, SLI/SLO and error-budget design, or relevant AWS certification.
