Description

  • Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that help the team execute effectively.
  • Own team operations and service availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting.
  • Establish code review and design standards and promote a culture of quality and ownership across the team.
  • Share technical perspective through writing and tech talks to influence practices beyond the immediate team.
  • Develop team members by providing feedback, guidance, and leadership by example.
  • Build integrations, services, and testing infrastructure that support funding of Affirm loans.
  • Work with Product and Capital Markets teams to implement complex financial structures, integrations, and reporting.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong knowledge of Spark and its inner workings.
  • Experience with task orchestration systems such as Airflow or Temporal is preferred.
  • Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating functionality through clear technical and execution planning.
  • Ability to write high-quality code that is easy for others to understand and use.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and moving between low-level implementation details and large-scale architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Eligible to work under a Contract of Employment in Poland and work remotely within Poland.
