Description

  • Lead the architectural direction of the backend platform as the product evolves.
  • Drive the technical roadmap for the new flagship project.
  • Ship production code and review pull requests.
  • Mentor and support the engineers on the team.
  • Partner with product, mobile, and design to turn ideas into scalable features.
  • Make pragmatic decisions about what to keep, evolve, or rebuild in the system.
  • Set the standard for how the team uses AI in both development workflows and product capabilities.
  • Help define foundational technical decisions for the platform.
  • Contribute hands-on to system design and implementation as a lead engineer.

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a senior or lead backend engineer.
  • Experience owning architecture decisions in a production environment.
  • Deep comfort with at least one modern backend language such as Ruby, Python, Elixir, or Go.
  • Strong judgment about when language choice matters and when it does not.
  • Strong opinions on API design, data modelling, and system evolution.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into real products, or a strong demonstrable interest in doing so.
  • Experience leading or mentoring other engineers.
  • Comfortable working remotely across European time zones.
  • Bonus: experience with consumer-scale mobile backends.
  • Bonus: experience with GraphQL.
  • Bonus: experience with Kotlin Multiplatform.

  • Remote role available anywhere in Europe.
  • Open to starting as a freelance contract with the intention of moving into a permanent role.
  • Compensation of €80,000–€90,000 per year.
  • Flexibility on compensation based on experience.
