Description

  • Design, implement, and optimize high-bandwidth, ultra-low-latency VFX network infrastructure for render farms, data transfers, and artist collaboration.
  • Partner with VFX and Corporate Technology teams to define and maintain network, storage, server, VM workstation, and render-farm architecture.
  • Configure and validate AWS Deadline Cloud Submitter, queues, and render nodes end to end.
  • Ensure Maya and Arnold scenes submit, render, and return outputs correctly across show-specific environments.
  • Design and build a scalable per-show environment-loader system separating machine-level and show-level configuration.
  • Build an internal system for batch transfer of 3D assets, scene directories, and render files between desktops and virtual machines.
  • Optimize DCC and remote-desktop configurations to deliver low-latency OpenGL performance.
  • Troubleshoot stuck frames, crashing render jobs, and data-flow bottlenecks in the render pipeline.
  • Implement Linux shell-based application launch workflows with show-specific environment variables and automated render-farm settings.
  • Document system architecture, workflows, procedures, and handoffs for VFX and Corporate Technology teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Linux, macOS, and Windows system administration experience, including networking and scripting.
  • Extensive experience configuring VFX pipeline networks and deploying render-farm infrastructure for CG asset, look-development, and rendering workflows.
  • Strong Python expertise, including Maya userSetup.py-style scripts, MEL/Python callbacks, and pipeline automation.
  • Demonstrable Bash scripting skills and Unix/Linux proficiency in Windows artist-workstation environments.
  • Engineering-level knowledge of CG and compositing tools, including Maya, Arnold, Mudbox, Unreal, Nuke, ShotGrid, SyncSketch, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Arnold/MtoA render devices and render workflows.
  • Direct experience with render-farm queue managers; Deadline is strongly preferred, and AWS Deadline Cloud is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of storage and networking, including NFS, SMB, NAS storage clusters, storage throughput, bandwidth, and protocol performance.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale workstations, render farms, servers, enterprise storage, cloud computing, and CG asset/rendering file systems.
  • Experience with Git and per-show or per-project environment patterns such as .env sourcing, Rez, or equivalent approaches.
  • Experience with remote-work solutions such as HP Z Remote, HP Anyware, or Teradici.
  • Preferred: experience with Entra ID/Intune-managed Windows endpoints, artist-facing DCC tools or plugins, ACES/OCIO workflows, ffmpeg or other transcoding tools, Docker, and/or AWS.
