Description

  • Build and manage a Japanese Discord community from scratch, including channel structure, roles, bots, and moderation.
  • Develop and execute a Japanese community growth strategy focused on MMO players, guild leaders, and content creators.
  • Identify, contact, and build relationships with Japanese YouTubers, streamers, and other content creators.
  • Engage with Japanese gaming communities across platforms such as Twitter/X, Niconico, YouTube, and 5ch/game forums.
  • Work with Japanese MMO guilds to bring organized groups into Soulbound and adapt outreach to JP guild culture.
  • Localize community announcements, patch notes, and event communications so they feel native to a Japanese audience.
  • Run community events tailored to Japanese player preferences, including housing contests, guild showcases, and seasonal events.
  • Prepare weekly reports on community sentiment, growth metrics, creator outreach, and cultural insights.
  • Act as a cultural advisor to the wider team on what resonates with Japanese players and how to avoid missteps.
  • Coordinate with the Community Director on cross-community events and consistent messaging.

Requirements

  • Native-level Japanese reading, writing, and speaking ability is required.
  • Fluent English with at least professional working proficiency is required.
  • Deep personal experience with MMOs is required.
  • Strong understanding of the Japanese gaming content creator landscape, including major YouTubers and VTubers.
  • Experience with Japanese online communities such as Discord JP servers, Twitter/X JP gaming communities, Niconico, and 5ch.
  • Knowledge of Japanese MMO guild culture and how it differs from Western guild culture.
  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to identify and act on opportunities independently.
  • Previous community management experience at a game studio is a plus, especially for a Western game launching in Japan.
  • Existing relationships with Japanese gaming content creators are preferred.
  • Understanding of Japan's content creator agency landscape is a plus.
  • Extensive play experience with FFXIV, PSO2, Dragon Quest X, or similar Japan-heavy MMOs is a plus.
  • Ability to create short-form video content in Japanese is a plus.
  • Experience localizing gaming content beyond direct translation is preferred.
