Description

  • Take ownership of project-level work, including work that affects or interacts with your own.
  • Assist other developers on your projects and provide debugging support.
  • Architect projects and complex subsystems for WordPress-based solutions.
  • Evaluate the pros and cons of different software architecture approaches when information is limited.
  • Carry out bug fixes and debugging across your own work and other team members' work.
  • Improve tooling, code quality, and team communication on current and adjacent projects.
  • Stay informed on development best practices and proactively address technical issues.
  • Push for performance and security improvements throughout the systems you work on.
  • Provide architectural input and feedback for whole systems.
  • Write technical documentation for project architecture and key decisions.

Requirements

  • Experience as an external contractor or freelancer with the ability to join teams and onboard efficiently.
  • Comfort working with autonomy and delivering to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills from remote work experience.
  • History of Agile project delivery.
  • Comprehensive understanding of modern web development with emphasis on PHP and JavaScript in a WordPress context.
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress internals, including the bootstrap process, global state, and major WordPress components.
  • Knowledge of the broader WordPress ecosystem, including commonly used third-party libraries.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering with JavaScript and/or PHP.
  • Expert WordPress knowledge and comprehensive understanding of WordPress.
  • Experience debugging your own code and other developers' code, including the use of debugging tools.
  • Expert HTML5 and CSS skills.
  • Experience with version control technologies such as Git.
  • Solid understanding of MySQL and database-driven application considerations.
  • Extensive experience using RESTful APIs.
  • Ability to set up local development environments.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills and comfort with technical terminology.
  • Ability to manage workload and juggle multiple tasks.
  • In-depth understanding of performance and security considerations.
  • Ability to architect complex subsystems.
  • Proven experience working on large enterprise WordPress development projects.
