Description

Perform precise audio annotation of bioacoustic data, including vocalization onsets and offsets, species identification, and call type classification.
Annotate related modalities such as voice notes and video when needed.
Test annotation software and user interfaces and provide feedback to improve the data pipeline.
Develop and use software to validate annotation quality.
Integrate and curate datasets within existing data infrastructure.
Contribute to scientific publications by describing annotation methods in writing.
Collaborate with researchers to interpret data and support scientific analysis.
Attend regular team meetings and discussions.

Requirements

Must be based in the United States and available for a remote, 1-year fixed-term contract.
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as computer science, marine biology, zoology, acoustics, or environmental science, or equivalent experience.
Solid background handling and interpreting acoustic data, with familiarity with data collection protocols and common formats.
Experience with tools like Raven is advantageous.
Comfortable writing Python code to review annotations, summarize datasets with figures, and integrate datasets into a data platform.
Able to navigate software interfaces and interested in improving tool usability.
High attention to detail and patience for deep-focus work.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for describing methods and giving clear feedback.
Enthusiasm for repetitive annotation work and listening to a variety of animal sounds.

Benefits

$25 USD per hour compensation.
Up to 30 hours per week.
