Description

  • Provide legal advice on BCI’s organizational matters, operations, and legal risk exposure.
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
  • Support the formulation and review of internal governance policies.
  • Evaluate multiple inputs and impacts when advising on decisions or courses of action.
  • Formulate and support the settlement of disputes and related formalities.
  • Monitor the implementation of legal clauses and related obligations.
  • Advise on legal issues involving charity and corporate governance, fundraising, marketing, competition, data protection, trademarks, copyright, defamation, and litigation.
  • Provide legal insights on the use of blockchain and emerging technologies in climate action initiatives.
  • Collaborate with BCI divisions and stakeholders across legal and governance matters.

Requirements

  • Volunteer role based in a home-based setting.
  • Excellent English writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and work flexibly across professional and operational boundaries.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, and maintain excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, research, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proactive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
  • Foreign language skills such as Mandarin or Thai are preferred.
  • Some knowledge of climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology is preferred.
  • Degree in Law for the Legal Assistant level.
  • Qualified lawyer admitted in an Asian country, preferably Hong Kong or Singapore, for Legal Advisor and above.
  • Post-qualification experience required by level: some experience for Legal Advisor, at least 3 years for Senior Legal Advisor, and at least 7 years for Principal Legal Advisor.
  • At least some in-house experience is highly preferable.
  • Proven experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Broad legal knowledge in corporate, contract, employment, and litigation matters.
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
  • Experience building constructive stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience working independently and with teams on blockchain-related projects.
