Description

  • Advise alternative asset firm and family office clients on tax compliance, reporting, and planning matters.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain tax-compliance and tax-reporting policies and processes.
  • Review best practices and translate goals into realistic, actionable plans.
  • Advise on vendor selection, oversight, and third-party tax service providers.
  • Oversee outsourced U.S. federal, state, local, and international tax filings and related records.
  • Establish and maintain policies for tax workpapers, allocations, tax returns, and investor reporting.
  • Research transactional and tax planning issues, including aggregate allocations and trader vs. investor determinations.
  • Oversee and approve estimated and final fund returns, management-company returns, and K-1 reporting.
  • Lead the North American payroll tax process and resolve employee tax issues, notices, and audits.
  • Advise portfolio managers and executive leadership on the impact of new tax laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • CPA designation and/or an advanced degree (MST).
  • 10+ years of prior work experience, specifically as a Director of Tax for an Alternative Asset Firm or Family Office.
  • 5+ years of proven experience with tax preparation, fund accounting, general ledger accounting, or Big 4 accounting/tax experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Subchapter K, financial products, wash sale and constructive sale rules, and aggregate allocations.
  • In-depth understanding of tax treatment across investment types, asset classes, financial instruments, and vehicle structures.
  • Extensive compliance experience with the IRS and foreign tax authorities.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Word and Excel, and tax planning/preparation software such as ProSystem fx or CCH Access Tax.
