Description

  • Conduct best-practice reviews and develop actionable improvement plans for investment data science functions.
  • Scope, build, and lead investment data science and analytics practices for hedge funds and family offices.
  • Perform exploratory analysis, clustering, and modeling on structured and unstructured data; deploy and monitor production models.
  • Partner with investment teams to turn data into insights for investment sourcing, selection, and monitoring.
  • Build portfolio company dashboards for KPI tracking and value-creation metrics.
  • Develop platforms to benchmark pipeline companies and investment alternatives across target investments.
  • Maintain internal datasets for comparable valuation metrics across funds and strategies.
  • Collaborate with Technology and IT teams to develop the data science technology stack.
  • Investigate and resolve data-quality issues affecting investment analytics and risk metrics.
  • Advise on vendor selection, policies, procedures, controls, and emerging data science tools and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics (preferred).
  • 6+ years of Data Scientist experience at a hedge fund, investment management firm, or family office.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools such as Tableau, Looker, or QlikView.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Apache Spark and cloud computing platforms.
  • Hands-on knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and emerging data science techniques and business applications.
  • Understanding of financial concepts, asset classes, investment vehicles, security types, and financial data science applications.
  • Ability to analyze high volumes of structured and unstructured data and derive detailed and strategic conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to recommend solutions clearly.
